Game Cancellations/Weather Policy

  • We play unless announced otherwise.
  • Balgonie Soccer will assess the weather and field conditions, in consultation with the Town of Balgonie and aim to have cancellations announced 90 minutes prior to game time.
  • Game time decisions will be at the discretion of the Referee, in consultation with the coaches.

Games may be cancelled or stopped due to the following:

  1. Wet field conditions—extremely wet field conditions can be dangerous for the players and damaging to the fields as well. A little bit of rain, however, does not usually stop a game from going ahead.
  2. Thunder—coaches and referee will discuss whether to delay the game until the storm passes or cancel completely. Please note: while thunder indicates danger of a close lightning strike, lightning in the distance (no thunder heard) is not usually cause for concern. Always take immediate shelter if a storm is imminent.
  3. Severe winds—if winds are high or dangerous, or if they increase during the game and become strong enough to move the ball across the field on its own, the referee and coaches will discuss a delay or cancellation of the game.
  4. Air quality—based on the GOC Air Quality Health Index, outdoor sporting events should be rescheduled with AQHI is 7 or higher.
  5. Road Conditions— (indoor season) games will be cancelled if the Saskatchewan Highway Hotline indicates travel is not recommended on the roads surrounding the soccer venue.

Game cancellations will be posted in the Balgonie Soccer Facebook Group, and cancelled through TeamLinkt as soon as possible.
